Editorial. Discusses the prevention of restenosis and cardiac events after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Reference to the report by Serruys et al in this journal concerning the findings from the Lescol Intervention Prevention Study, which showed the benefits of very early intervention of lipid-lowering therapy with fluvastatin in patients undergoing their first PCI; Features of restenosis, including neoproliferation and transcellular metabolism; Suggestion that statin therapy can be effective in terms of cost and morbidity.
