- Abstract
The article discusses images of injured and disfigured British World War I veterans. It examines portraits by English artist Henry Tonks and photographs held at the Gillies Archives of Queen Mary’s Hospital in South London, England, available to view online through an initiative called Project Façade. The author explores the influence of these images on the video game Bioshock, developed by 2K Games, particularly exploring issues of ethics, copyright, and memory. Images of World War I veteran Henry Ralph Lumley are examined.
