The article discusses the role of the city of New Orleans in World War II, particularly the boat manufacturer Higgins Industries' contribution to the U.S.' amphibious warfare. Also cited are company owner and industrialist Andrew Jackson Higgins, the vessels made by the firm like landing craft personnel (LCP) and Patrol Torpedo (PT) boats, as well as the construction of the U.S. Navy's PBY Catalina patrol bomber.
