- Abstract
The article discusses the ecological habitat of Sanford's Sea-Eagle Haliaeetus (leucogaster) sanfordi in the Solomon Islands. They prey on soaring Glossy Swiftlets Collocalia esculenta, Solomons Flying-foxes Pteropus rayneri and a Prehensile-tailed Skink Corucia zebrata. Ecological release explains this eagle's wide habitat and dietary niche in the Islands, but morphological and vocalisation studies suggest that classifying it with the White-bellied Sea-Eagle H. leucogaster, on limited DNA evidence, is premature.
