- Abstract
This article explores the concept of "organic development" in the liturgical reforms of the Catholic Church, particularly in relation to the Second Vatican Council. The author discusses the historical roots of this concept in German neoclassicism and the writings of Joachim Winckelmann. The article also examines how organic development is understood in the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy and the General Instruction of the Roman Missal. The author highlights the complexities and varying interpretations of organic development in contemporary liturgical writings. Additionally, the article discusses the concepts of "noble simplicity" and their application in liturgical reform, tracing their origins back to the Roman Rite. The text concludes by suggesting further exploration of the relationship between organic development and noble simplicity in German neoclassicism and their impact on liturgical reform.
