- Title
A Preliminary History: The House Of Anansi Press.
- Authors
Andrews, Jennifer
- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the House of Anansi press Ltd. According to co-founder David Godfrey, the press was created to make available those texts which larger commercial firms refused to take a chance on for fear of producing poor sellers. Dennis Lee's poetry manuscript, "Kingdom of Absence," became the book used to launch the House of "Ananse" in March 1967 and the press was born. In spite of the success of the House of Anansi's early years, the press was financially stretched by rapid expansion and the large amounts of capital that were tied up in stock.
