The article discusses the jazz development in Estonia and Finland. Jazz development between the two rather contradictory cultural phenomena took different paths, in both cases reaching practically the same level. In the case of the Finns, they gained a wider scope of dissemination of jazz and the contacts with common/rural people, whereas Estonians had a quicker reaction both in avoiding the pseudo style in noise. Development of Estonian jazz was interrupted by war and scattering musicians.
