An essay is presented on the constitutional implications of inmate fees for goods, services, and their stay behind bars in the U.S. is presented. Topics discussed by the author include the legality of the systems of fees and fines under the Excessive Fines Clause of the Eight Amendment, the violation to the U.S. Constitution, and the history of inmate fees.
