- Abstract
The present study it has as objective to verify if the Flegner power test (FPT) can be used in the classification for three types of muscles fibers composition: slow of the type I, fast of the type IIa or without fibers predominance and fast of the type IIb fibers composition. Three groups composites of eight voluntary runners participated of the study, of form to represent the three types of fibers composition, respectively: Group 1: long distance runners (30.75 ± 7.55 years); Group 2: middle-distance runners (30.75 ± 7.55 years); Group 3: sprinters (26.25 ± 6.59 years). The values of the Absolute Anaerobic Power Unit (UPAA) extracted of the FPT for each participant was treated by ANOVA (p < 0.05). The results showed: Group 1: 125.85 ± 31.2; Group 2: 147.66 ± 18.47; Group 3: 238.19 ± 27.47 UPAA (mean ± SD). It had significant statistic difference between Group 3 and the others (p < 0.01), but between Groups 1 and 2 it did not have. The FPT classified with efficiency the fast and slow muscles fibers compositions. However, to Group 2 suggest that been composed of runners of 800 or 400 m, thus being able to get resulted more satisfactory.
