- Abstract
Yellow fever is an infectious disease, belonging to the group of hemorrhagic fevers caused by viruses. At first, it was believed that it was an exclusive disease of the human genus, but research showed that it is a zoonosis that also affects monkeys of different species. Infected monkeys in Africa and tropical America are the main source of infection, and mosquitoes transmit it to humans. This type of disease, which only appears accidentally in man when he invades risk areas without proper protection, is known as jungle yellow fever. If the infected person moves to a populated area, they can be bitten by semi-domestic species of mosquitoes such as Aedes aegypti, the main transmitters in urban yellow fever epidemics. On this occasion, we pay tribute to a fighter against this disease Dr. Rumeno Isaac Diaz (1913-1993).
