- Title
Same-Sex Marriage and the Charge of Illiberality.
- Authors
Barry, Peter Brian
- Abstract
The article discusses the idea of equality in the commitment to liberalism in relation to marriage among same-sex couples. It states that allowing opposite sex couples to get married is a biased affair since it only provides their protection as opposite sex and is against the idea of liberalism of equality and neutrality. According to some liberal states, recognition of same-sex marriage (SSM) should be provided if recognition of opposite sex marriage is implemented. The legal recognition of opposite sex marriage and not SSM is said to be illiberal.
