- Abstract
This article is a response to a research paper on nurse-doctor co-teaching in a hospital setting. The authors share their own experiences in a community context, where medical students were assigned advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs) as mentors instead of doctors. The pilot program found that students had an increased understanding of the role of nurse practitioners and positive changes in attitudes towards them as teachers. The authors argue that community-based clinical education should embrace interprofessional education and recognize the teaching roles of allied healthcare professionals.
