An essay is presented on the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese war. It explores the interest of Polish artist and writers in Japan at the beginning of the twentieth century. It offers a Polish perspective relevant to the war and its relation to the Polish political activity. The author examines the notion that the Japanese attack was a reference to the emergence of militancy in Poland.
