- Abstract
The article discusses a study on North Korea's group of individuals from powerful families of former high-ranking party officials. These individuals belonging to the patrimonial elite are promoted within the government due to their personal ties to the Kim Il-sung family. The article focuses on the political context in which the North Korean patrimonial elite achieved their status. It cites the role of the patrimonial elite in propagating traditional values and making society more conservative.
