- Abstract
The article discusses professor Stanley T. Williams and his role in the study of American literature and American writers' interactions with Hispanic culture. The author describes author Washington Irving's interest in Spanish exploration of the New World and his 1828 biography of explorer Christopher Columbus, "History of the Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus." Also discussed are Irving's role in American literature and his portrayal of Columbus.
