- Title
CAN THE SOCIOLOGIST AND SOCIAL WORKER AGREE ON THE CONTENT OF CASE RECORDS.
- Authors
Swift, Linton B.
- Abstract
The case worker, the ultimate purpose of a case record must be treatment based upon the needs of the individual Case. For example, in a study of the causes and effects of divorce, case records designed for research purposes should contain reasonably complete information upon divorce whenever it is found. From the point of view of the case worker, however, in many cases the causes and effects of divorce may have receded so far into the background, or be so overshadowed by more important issues, as to receive comparatively little emphasis in the case record. Several years ago some of social case workers were much disappointed to find that their case records revealed little of value on the social effects of prohibition. Case work has in recent years levied tribute upon psychology. Indeed it may be hard to tell where the contribution of psychology ends and that of sociology begins. Sociology and social work agree in seeing the individual, not as a self- sufficient unit, but as a person with relationships.
