- Abstract
This article focuses on a study according to which CHD5 defines a new subfamily of chromodomain-SWI2/SNF2-like helicases. Chromosomal DNA of eukaryotic cells is functionally organized by complex formation with nuclear proteins in chromatin. Core components of known remodeling complexes are DNA and nucleosomestimulated ATPases/helicases, which are characterized by a highly conserved SWI2/SNF2-like catalytic domain. Researchers' interest in epigenetics and chromatin-mediated gene regulation prompted them to search for new SWI2/SNF2-related genes.
