Fictual factions: on the emergence of a documentary style in recent Cuban films.
- Authors
Rodríguez-Mangual, Edna M.
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the emerging documentary style in Cuban films. It presents the discussions on documentary film raising questions related to fact and fiction. It also examines contemporary films about Cubans that were classified as documentary films. These films include "Buena Vista Social Club," directed by Wim Wenders, and "Balseros/Cuban Rafters," created by Carlos Bosch and Josép M. Doménech that show striking similarities to the "salvage method" of ethnography.
