- Title
Asteroids: Stripped on passing by Earth.
- Authors
Chapman, Clark R.
- Abstract
The article reports on the study which cites the transformation of near-Earth asteroids (NEA) due to tidal forces that surround the planet. It mentions that NEA originated from the collisions of asteroids and have contact-binary shapes made from superficial rubble. It states that NEA undergo generations of satellite formation, evolving shapes, and changing appearances. It notes that the distortions of NEA spectrum is brought by its passage in Earth. Moreover, it suggests docking missions to reveal the complexity and evolving behaviour of NEA rubble piles.
