- Title
Beamline bonanza for Japanese researchers.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses the plans of the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC), in the town of Tokiamura in Ibaraki, to accelerate and smash protons into a variety of targets. This process will be used to produce beams of subatomic particles such as muons, neutrons, kaons, and neutrinos. While the majority of accelerators are designed to either study fundamental particle physics or nuclear physics, or for materials or medical use, J-PARC is built to do each. Also discussed is the need for funding and how the Nobel Prize could help with that aspect. Nobuo Niimura of Ibaraki University will be leading protein-structure research associated with the accelerator.
