- Title
The long and winding road.
- Abstract
The article discusses the controversy regarding the success in treating a patient with terminal heart failure in Dusseldorf, Germany. The patient was treated with adult stem cells taken from his own bone marrow but the success was attacked by opponents of human embryonic stem cell research. The opponents of the research claimed that the clinical success renders research less necessary than before which led to the consideration by the parliament whether to modify the country's strict stem-cell laws. It is inferred that biologists working on the stem cell issue in the country are finding it hard to make their voices clearly heard.
