The article discusses the book "A Small Place" by Jamaica Kincaid, with particular attention paid to its critique of tourism and strategy of disrupting the complacency of white, Western reading practices. The concept of literature, particularly that by non-Western authors, as a pedagogical agent rather than an object to be interpreted, is also discussed.
