- Abstract
Objective:The present study was aimed to investigate the antidiabetic effect Chrozophorarottlerileaves extracts in streptozotocininduced diabetes in rats. Materials and Methods: The various extracts at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg was given to the overnightfasted wistar rats for 14 days and were extracted the anti-diabetic, lipid profile, liver enzymes, antioxidant enzymes and kidney parameters in Streptozotocininduced diabetic rats. The parameters studied were blood glucose, lipid profile total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL)], serum enzymes such as serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT), antioxidant enzymes like super oxide dismutase(SOD), catalase (CAT),reduced glutathione (GSH),glycatedhemoglobin (HbA1c), serum and urine creatinine and serum urea levels. Glibenclamide (10 mg/kg) was selected as standard hypoglycaemic drug. Results:The MACR with 200 mg/kg shows more significant (P<0.001) anti-diabetic activity on day 14 and also significantly (P<0.001) decreased in SGOT, SGPT, TG, TC, VLDL-C, LDL-C,HbA1cand antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT and GSH levels) were significantly(P<0.001) improved when compared with diabetic control. The kidney parameters also significantly (P<0.01) decreased with both doses when compared with diabetic control but PECR and EACR extracts also shows less significant effect when compared with MACR. Conclusion: From the results the present study revealed that the Chrozophorarottleri have potential anti-diabetic activity of different extracts.
