- Abstract
The study aimed to clarify the relationship between waist to hip and its relationship to the basic metabolic rate (BMR) and obesity index (BAI). The boundaries of the study population included the residents of the city center of Halabja and its environs, and the research sample included (440) people, including (259) males and (181) women, and their ages ranged from (17-65) years in various levels and classes within society, they were chosen randomly. The researcher used the survey method. The results showed the emergence of high values in the waist-hip ratio (WHR) and the obesity index (BAI), but a normal level of the basic body metabolism rate (BMR), the presence of a direct correlation between the two variables of the waist-hip ratio (WHR) and the obesity index (BAI) for the sample, and the presence of Inverse correlation between waist-hip ratio (WHR) and basal metabolic rate (BMR), and by gender. The study recommended that high body mass is a risk factor for health diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and certain types of cancer.
