- Abstract
Polyvinylene/talcum powder/polypropylene fiber composites (PE/Talc/PPF) were prepared by adding talcum powder (Talc) and polypropylene fiber (PPF) into polyethylene (PE), and the effects of single filler and mixed filler on properties of composites were compared. The results show that the mechanical properties of PE/Talc/PPF composites are better than those of single filler composites. When the filler content is 15%, PE/Talc/PPF composite shows good mechanical properties, tensile strength, compressive strength and flexural strength of PE/Talc/PPF are 59.25, 36.71 and 115.43 MPa, respectively. When the filler content is 15%, the flame retardant properties of PE/Talc/PPF composite is the best, and the limiting oxygen index (LOI) value and total smoke production of PE/Talc/PPF are 31.3% and 5.43 m2, respectively. When the filler content is 15%, PE/Talc/PPF has good melt fluidity and anti-aging performance. After aging test, the tensile strength and LOI value of PE/Talc/PP is decreased by 0.87% and 2.18%. Therefore, based on the synergistic effect of Talc and PPF, PE/Talc/PPF has excellent performance and can be effectively used in building materials.
