- Abstract
The French Supreme Court has made two rulings regarding paid annual leave, aligning French law with European Union law. The court determined that employees on sick leave, whether work-related or not, continue to accrue paid annual leave rights. Additionally, the court ruled that employees with occupational illnesses or accidents are not limited to acquiring paid annual leave rights for only one year. The court has called for revisions to the French Labour Code to comply with European law. The court's decisions are more favorable than EU law, and other countries such as Croatia, Germany, and Italy have made similar rulings. The French government plans to bring French law in line with EU law by 2024.
