- Abstract
This paper investigates the maps drawn by Kurdish groups. It argues that all maps are drawn with a political and ideological aim. The article constructs its argument based on critical theory's claim developed and expanded in the middle of the twentieth century. The innovation of critical approaches brought for geopolitics and cartography constitutes the theoretic background of the article. In the first part, the article analyses new style of questioning of critical theory for geopolitics and cartography. In the second part, it analyses the maps drawn in history by Kurdish representatives and groups. In this way, the article puts the emphasis on the relation of maps to power, geo-strategy and political/historical argumentations. Finally, the article seeks to explain what Kurdistan means as a historical and geographical reality for the Kurds.
