- Abstract
For a long time, man's health was neglected by different sectors of health, however, with the approval of the National Comprehensive Health Care Human Policy, an increase in discussions involving the male clientele health-disease process. In this context, this study aimed to identify the constraints that contribute to low demand on health care for men in primary care from the perspective of Nursing. This was a field research, exploratory, descriptive and quantitative approach. The survey was conducted in two basic health units located in São José de Ribamar- MA, from January to March 2015. The study sample consisted of 29 professionals, 20 were nursing technicians and 09 nurses. It was used as a tool in data collection a questionnaire previously prepared by the researcher. The results were: 55.2% are aged 31-40 years and 93.1% are female; 62.1% cite masculinity as the main limitation of the low demand for health care by man; 72.1% underscore the lack of health programs for men, as one of the difficulties for health care to this public; 62.1% had no type of training and / or training focused on human health and 58.6% carry out educational activities focused on men's health. We conclude that the intervention on health care for the man in the core network further advances in slow steps, although there is a policy geared to this clientele.
