- Abstract
The article analyzes the risk factors for posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant pediatric patients in Bologna and Brescia of Italy between January 2000 and November 2010. Typical neuroimaging findings of vasogenic edema served as the basis of PRES diagnosis. An increased risk of PRES was attributed to hemoglobinopathy, child's age, and mismatched unrelated donor. A high incidence of PRES was also noted in those receiving cord blood.
