- Abstract
The article "Focus on Synthesis: Photochemical Synthesis in Water" points out that water is an unusual but environmentally friendly solvent for photochemical syntheses. Water not only offers an environmentally friendly alternative to organic solvents, but can also lead to increased or altered reactivity and selectivity. The article presents various examples of how water can be used as a solvent or in combination with other substances in photochemical synthesis to influence reaction rate and product formation. Micelles, oil-water interfaces, and cages are discussed as possible environments for photochemical reactions in water. The author of the article, Line Næsborg, conducts research at the University of Münster and develops photochemical methods using micelles as hosts to create unique local environments that allow for different reaction pathways and outcomes compared to organic solvents.
