- Title
Vor 50 Jahren: Pullulan.
- Abstract
The first January issue of Nachrichten aus Chemie und Technik in 1974 introduced Pullulan, a new, natural, water-soluble linear polysaccharide made up of maltotriose units. The Japanese company Hayashibara Biochemical Laboratories was the manufacturer and is still the market leader in Pullulan production. Pullulan is used as an edible film and primarily in Japan as a cellophane-like packaging film for food. It is described as tasteless and cannot be broken down by salivary amylases.
