- Title
Vor 50 Jahren in den Blauen Blättern: Meeresbakterien statt Spürhunde.
- Abstract
50 years ago, the news in chemistry reported on a new biological-based measuring device. The device, developed by RPC of El Segundo from California, used the bioluminescence of marine bacteria to detect explosives, air pollutants, toxic gases, and heroin. The New York Police Department was one of the first customers for these portable detectors, which cost about 10,000 DM. The military and security organizations also showed interest in the device. Further interesting information from past issues of the news in chemistry can be found in the GDCh app.
