- Abstract
A total of 287 dietary items and 19 roosting sites of the Sooty Owl were identified from coastal habitats at Cape Conran, East Gippsland, Victoria. One male Sooty Owl roosted exclusively within foliage of Scented Paperbark and Saw Banksia, while three females roosted exclusively within eucalypt hollows. Dietary remains collected predominantly from the male Sooty Owl included nine mammal species, with the Common Ringtail Possum and Bush Rat being the dominant species, supporting the view that Sooty Owls take prey from arboreal and terrestrial locations.
