- Abstract
Introduction: Different modalities of exercise have been proposed for the elderly, including water aerobics, weight training, and activities practiced at the Academies of old age, leaving it to the elderly choose the activity that best adapt. Objective: To analyze the quality of life of practitioners of different modalities of exercise elderly. Method: WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-OLD questionnaires were used to analyze 120 volunteers divided into three groups of 40 elderly women, as follow: water aerobics group (WAG), academy seniors group (ASG) and weight group (WG). Results: The highest score for quality of life was obtained in the psychological domain, with no statistically significant differences between the groups. The WG achieved better results in most areas, with statistically significant differences in the physical aspects (p = 0.001), sensory abilities (p = 0.033) as well as the past, present and future (p = 0.004) activities. Conclusion: The practice of bodybuilding provides better benefits in quality of life of the elderly when compared to exercises performed in gyms of old age and aerobics.
