- Abstract
The article analyzes parenting practices in poor families in the city of Ibagué, Colombia, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Two types of parenting practices were identified: feeding and educational support. During the 2021 national strike in Colombia, acts of state violence that affected the poorest families and children in poverty were reported. NGOs played an important role in assisting families in poverty, but they also exerted power and regulation over parenting practices. The study reveals the complexity of parenting practices and the influence of NGOs in regulating behaviors. The article analyzes the impact of the pandemic on the feeding and educational practices of poor families in Colombia. Additionally, it is mentioned that NGOs have also provided academic support to minimize the educational setbacks caused by the lack of access to in-person education. The article analyzes state intervention in poor families through NGOs in Colombia. It is concluded that these interventions contribute to the management of poverty and the legitimization of social orders in line with capitalism and patriarchy. The article analyzes the relationship between the ideal diet defined by institutions and business initiatives that donate food to NGOs. It is concluded that it is necessary to analyze parenting as a complex issue and that parenting practices are a disputed topic in which the state and NGOs intervene. The article highlights the importance of protecting children's rights and promoting their well-being in the midst of this crisis.
