- Abstract
The article presents the author's views on the controversy surrounding the book "The Hindus: An Alternative History" by Wendy Doniger in the U.S. and India, highlighting the significance Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code. The controversy involved censorship and free inquiry, freedom and religion based on political liberalism ideals, and insider-outsider scholarship and inquiry methods. Also discussed are the differences between normative and descriptive methods in religious studies.
