- Abstract
The article "The New Housing Question" discusses the current housing shortage in Germany. It points out that the issue of sufficient housing supply seemed to have been solved in the 1970s. However, affordable housing is now scarce and increasingly becoming a rarity. The housing shortage affects not only low-income households but also the middle class. The causes of this situation are analyzed, and approaches for better housing policies are outlined. It is emphasized that housing shortage is not only a scarcity problem but also a distribution problem. Furthermore, it is noted that the functions of housing are changing and that the spatial and temporal boundaries between living and working are blurring. Therefore, housing policy in the future will also encompass questions of coexistence and quality of life.
