- Abstract
The article focuses on a 53-year-old man who was referred for neuro-ophthalmic testing for acute onset of distortions and decreased vision, and was diagnosed with the Heidenhain variant of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a prion disease or transmissible spongiform encephalopathy. It notes that the classic clinical features of CJD are dementia, ataxia and myoclonus. Also mentioned are the typical ocular symptoms of the disease, such as homonymous field loss, cortical blindness, and palinopsia.
