The article focuses on expenditures in clinical researches. It says that from 2008, a total of 94 million dollars were spent on research and development (R&D) by a number of research firms including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) along with pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies. It also says that economic disparity was documented based on data from Contract Research Organization (CRO), Medidata Solutions, and Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development (CSDD).
