- Abstract
The article focuses on the issue of the activation of vitamin D receptors (VDR) in optimizing secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) on dialysis. The VDR tends to a decrease in the receptor population and this causes hyperplasia of the parathyroid gland (PTH). The VDR in the parathyroid glands is a cytosolic receptor which acts as a transcription factor in PTH expression.
