- Abstract
The article presents a teacher's guide for teaching students about the Gilder Lehrman Collection Document which is based on Stephen Austin's second colony contract in June 1825. Several conditions existed in the contract, on which Empresario Stephen F. Austin was authorized by the Government of the State of Cuahulia and Texas, including colonization of 500 families who were to be Catholics with good moral character in the vacant lands, establishment of towns in the conformity with the law and churches in the said towns. The guide also presents a set of questions, wherein issues regarding colonization and the contract signed by Austin are discussed.
