- Abstract
The article discusses the history of French theater during the time of the French Revolution of 1789. Reference is made to the history of professional and amateur theater during this period. Topics discussed include the development of popular amateur theater, the advantages and disadvantages of amateur theater, as well as the relationship between the theater and French social structures of this period; and the increasing popularity of theater as a form of entertainment at the time of the French Revolution.
