- Abstract
The article discusses European colonial expansion in the region of Palestine, with a focus on a campaign by the Egyptian Expeditionary Force (EEF) led by General Edmund H. H. Allenby from 1917 to 1918. Topics include Allenby's concern for the health of his troops regarding the potential spread of communicable diseases, the history of British military involvement in the Middle East and Northern Africa, and the role of weather conditions in exacerbating an epidemic of malaria. Common diseases and preventive measures are discussed in relation to early 20th century Jerusalem, Israel.
