- Abstract
The article discusses the U.S. Supreme Court case of Santa Ciara Pueblo v. Martinez and highlights the U.S. relations with tribes to understand tribal self-governance. Topics discussed include tribal constitutional models of professor Duane Champagne, the role of the Indian Civil Rights Act and limitations on tribal sovereignty. It suggests the U.S. to be aware of the impact of imposing Anglo-American constitutional values on tribal governments.
