- Abstract
Schizophrenia is a disabling mental disorder that limits the functionality of people. The objective of the study was to recognize the cultural domain of disability in schizophrenia in relatives of users from Instituto Jalisciense de Salud Mental. As results, a single valid cultural domain was found (p ≤ 0.05), in which, work capacity and independent living were part of the main beliefs about disability. The conclusions are that the environment of the person with schizophrenia has a great impact on the experience of disability that a human lives. Individual and family beliefs configure barriers that limit inclusion.
