- Abstract
Objectives: The goal of this study was to evaluate absorbance measurements in otosclerotic ears. Material and methods: Otosclerosis was confirmed surgically in 54 ears and all 54 ears underwent analysis. Pure tone audiometry, impedance audiometry, wideband tympanometry and absorbance measurements were performed before the surgery. Results: The analysis of absorbance measurements allowed to distinguish 5 types of absorbance graphs depending on: the number of peaks, the maximum absorption and the width of the graph. All five types of absorbance graphs are discussed. Conclusions: Incorporating WBT with absorbance measurements in middle ear diagnostics is of great help in detection of otosclerotic ears. fhis method may provide additional information about severity of otosclerosis.
