- Title
The Solid Base of Liberal Internationalism?
- Authors
Chung, Daniel
- Abstract
The article discusses the potential consequences of states acquiring nuclear weapons as a means of deterrence and national prestige. While possessing nuclear weapons may be rational for individual states, it can lead to an increased likelihood of their use, accidents, and low-intensity conflicts. The article also critiques the liberal internationalist perspective, arguing that it relies on faith and undermines the sovereignty norm. It questions the coherence of democratic peace theory and the application of universal human rights arguments in international relations.
