The article reports on a research conducted by Eric Betzig and Na Ji on the use of adaptive optics, which actively correct distortions that occur as light travels through the atmosphere. As stated, the adaptive optics approach is applied for cells in thick tissue slices and used a spatial light modulator with over two million pixels, adjusted to tilt light beams. Thus, it resulted in the elimination of ghost images and sharper focus in calibration samples of fixed brain slices.
