- Abstract
The article reports that a transposon-based method has been devised to produce transgene-free and safer induced pluripotent stem cells. In the earlier reprogramming studies, conventional retroviral vectors had been used to introduce the transcription factors into somatic cells. Though the genomic integration of viral vectors is of little concern for mechanistic studies of reprogramming, their existence in the genome may result in cellular abnormalities in a potential therapeutic setting.
