Is There Any Benefit of Supplementing Infant Milk Formulae With Long Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids?
- Authors
SHAH, DHEERAJ
- Abstract
The article considers the results of systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials (RCT) on the effect of supplemental long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) in infant formulae on the growth and neurodevelopment of term and preterm infants. According to the researchers, such supplementation failed to demonstrate benefit or harm to preterm infants. The author explains that the presence of LCPUFA in breast milk will drive manufacturers to continue adding it to infant formulae.
